Sweet Sweet

Guitarist Jeremy Dunham and cellist Kerrine Gifford found each other in 2010 when Gifford sat in with Dunham’s former band, John Owen’s Journal. From simply jamming to their favorite tunes or playing weddings, these two knew instantly that they could create something well … sweet.

Dunham’s woodsy vocals combine with Gifford’s wind chime pipes in a harmony that hasn’t been heard since John Paul White and Joy Williams of The Civil Wars. His care-free guitar rhythms are grounded by her deep, liquid melodies, creating their folk indie band, Sweet Sweet.

Their inspiration comes from their favorite bands and the experiences they share. They are The Lumineers meet Young the Giant with a respective wave to Mumford & Sons. If you open Dunham’s iTunes, you’ll find “Ragged Wood” by Fleet Foxes and “Gone” by The Head and The Heart to be among his most played.

The road to Sweet Sweet, however, hasn’t been so sugary. “It’s a do-it-yourself industry,” says Dunham. “Especially in our genre. It takes a lot of time to develop yourself to be presented in the right light.” And Sweet Sweet is putting in all their efforts to do just that.

Touring all over South and North Carolina, music has become a full-time gig for Dunham and Gifford. If they aren’t playing a show in their hometown Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, they are on the road, writing or recording.

Ask Dunham what the most exciting aspect of the music industry is and he’ll say, “When you play a song in another state and there’s someone in the crowd who’s singing along with you. That’s awesome!”

If you want to be one of those singing along, their new single “To the Stars” is available on iTunes.
